Spellcasting Empty Spellcasting

Sat Apr 13, 2024 12:27 am
Skill Name: Spellcasting
Rating: Novice/Apprentice/Initiate/Journeyman/Expert/Master
Associated Attribute: Intellect (Arcane), Insight (Primal), Presence (Divine)
Proficiency: +3/6/9/12/15/18
Appearance: -
History: The history of Spellcasting is as ancient as the dawn of magic itself, tracing its origins to the earliest civilizations that sought to harness the arcane forces of the cosmos. From the mystical rites of ancient sorcerers to the scholarly traditions of wizardry, the art of Spellcasting has evolved and flourished across the ages, shaping the very fabric of reality.

In the primordial mists of antiquity, when mortals first glimpsed the boundless potential of magic, Spellcasting emerged as a means to channel and manipulate the elemental energies that suffused the world. Shamans communed with the spirits of nature, invoking their blessings and curses through incantations and rituals. Wise sages delved into the mysteries of the arcane, unlocking the secrets of the cosmos through study and meditation.

As civilizations rose and fell, the practice of Spellcasting became intertwined with religion, philosophy, and mysticism, shaping the beliefs and cultures of countless societies. High priests invoked divine miracles, wielding the power of the gods to heal the sick, smite the wicked, and protect the faithful. Alchemists and occultists delved into forbidden lore, seeking forbidden knowledge and forbidden power that lay beyond the boundaries of mortal comprehension.

What It Does: Character's with this Skill can now learn and cast Abilities with the Spell tag, with a few caveats. For starters, depending on the Race or Profession a Character is depends on the type of Magic, Arcane, Primal, or Divine, they can learn and cast; this then determines what Attribute they add when using this Skill, Intellect for Arcane, Insight for Primal, and Presence for Divine. Spellbinders specifically can cast any kind of Magic, but they are limited to only being able to actually learn Spells which they have Bound. Like all other Skills, when a person uses Spellcasting they add the Attribute for the type of Magic being cast, plus their Proficiency in this Skill, plus the power of the Spell if they're using an Ability specifically. The applications of this Skill, for both in and out of combat is primarily casting Spells that a character has learned, but it can also be used for things like basic and general knowledge of how spellcasting works, if a spell is being cast by another person, or to use magical artifacts which are found throughout the world.
Specialties:
  • Subtle Spellcraft (Expert)- Allows a caster to covertly utilize their spells as well as being able to learn and use Abilities which require Subtle Spellcraft; when using a Spell that has a Verbal Component with this Specialty, the Character may spend 10 additional points of Mana to negate having to do the Verbal Component in order to cast the Spell, Spells cast in this manner cannot have any of their other components negated or reduced via any means such as another Specialty or an Amplification Spell.
  • School Adept (Initiate)- Allows a caster to specialize in a School of Magic from the Magic Types that they can usually cast as well as being able to learn Abilities which require School Adept to use; the specialized School is chosen at the time of this Specialty being learned, and when casting a Spell from that specific School, the caster can now cast it at half of it's normal Mana cost. Spells casted with this discount cannot have their cost reduced any further by any means.
  • Composed Channeling (Apprentice)- Allows a caster to keep completely calm and utilize said reserve while casting Spells as well as being able to learn Abilities which require Composed Channeling to use; whenever someone with this Specialty uses a Spell, they can choose to extend it's Casting Time by 1 Post which then allows them to add their Composure score to the Spell's effective power.
