Ability Name: Spellsteal
Appearance: A bright purple aura that omits from the caster's hands, extending outward in circle filled with different sigils; any Spell energy caught within it's AoE is seen being drawn into this circle.
History: Spellsteal first emerged 193 years ago, during the chaotic aftermath of the First Gloaming, when magic began to fragment and destabilize across the realm. The Spell-Like Ability was discovered by a rogue Infyerna Mage named Saevith Kirn, previously denounced and stripped of his prior talent in spellcasting and the arcane arts; who, while experimenting with corrupted arcane energies, accidentally absorbed his assistant's spell mid-cast. Recognizing its potential, Saevith honed the formula of his newfound 'artistry', perfecting a technique that allowed him to, not only absorb but would also further inspire him to create another Ability to replicate these spells. This newfound power spread through underground magical circles and secret societies, but its origins remained mysterious, with some speculating that it was tied to the Gloaming's disruption of arcane laws.

What It Does: After activating the Ability by placing at least one of their hands in front of them (and saying the proper Chant at higher Ratings), a bright purple, sigil-filled circle emanates from the hand being held out; with this circle being approximately the size of the user's hand. From this, a 'vacuum' like current in a conical shape emerges, extending outwards to its specified dimension at a speed equal to the Ability's TAP. When not affecting a Spell within range, the 'vacuum' is largely invisible to the naked eye, any form of supernaturally/magically enhanced vision can see it as if the air was being pulled into the circle of sigils. However, anyone nearby can hear it via the distinct sound it makes similar to extreme gusts of wind, mixed with a high-pitched buzzing sound.
Any Ability with the
Spell Tag in the bounds of the AoE will then proceed to 'clash' with this Ability, but it can only affect 1/2/3 Spells per post in this manner. If a Spell has power greater than that of Spellsteal, it will be completely unaffected; if a Spell has power equal to that of Spellsteal, both will be Disrupted and promptly go on cooldown; if a Spell has power less than that of Spellsteal, the opposing Spell will be Disrupted, and promptly go on cooldown. This Disruption is slightly unique: it still works like usual via the total negation of an affected Spell(s), but where it differs is that Disrupted Spells are then drawn into the circle being 'stolen' to a certain degree. Stolen Spells are still known and learned by the original caster, but they can't be cast by the original user for the remainder of the thread it was stolen in
or if the Spellthief uses the Spell without permanently binding it to a gem as per the Spellbinding Skill (the two in tandem act as the means to which Spellthieves can cast Spells). Spells that are stolen can either be bound within a gem for later use using the Spellbinding Skill or used within that same thread by temporarily tethering it to a gem. If the first option is chosen, it must still be done within that same thread, and any that aren't will just be naturally lost.
At Initiate Rating, the first Spell that clashes with this Spell-Like will receive a debuff to its power equal to the Base Power of this one, and at Expert Rating, the debuff applies to the first Spell affected each post.
